By hissing and reaching behind you, you pull an innocent adult peasant from mid-air. You can cast this whenever you want, but its purpose is to be cast when you’re attacked by an enemy. You and the attacker roll opposed Reflex saves (if your caster level is greater than your Reflex and Dexterity modifier scores combined, you may use it instead. You may still add misc. and magic bonuses to either one). If you fail, you are attacked. You can still cast the spell, but you must make a concentration check. Also, the attacker doesn’t actually hit the peasant, so the attacker doesn’t roll the Will save. If you succeed, you pull the summoned peasant out in front of you, and the attacker hits the peasant instead.

If the attacker is good aligned, the attacker must succeed a will save with a DC: 10+ Damage Dealt+ ½ caster level. A Neutral aligned attacker (with regards to good and evil) must succeed a will save with a DC: 5+Damage Dealt+ ½ caster level. Evil characters make no save. If the attacker succeeds, nothing happens. If he fails, the attacker is overcome with grief and is stunned for 1d6+ ½ caster level rounds. After the peasant’s initial appearance, the caster may use it as a human shield. Whenever he’s attacked, the attacker and caster make opposed reflex rolls. If the attacker hits the peasant, the attacker must roll the same Will save as before, except the DC is 2 less for each time the attacker has hit the peasant.

The peasant has an AC of 12 (+2 Dex) and 12 hp. The peasant is cumbersome, and is treated like a heavy shield in terms of Arcane Spell Failure Chance (15%) and skill check penalties. The peasant moves and squirms, adding 2 to any concentration check DC, but otherwise doesn’t try and escape.

Should the attacker kill the peasant, even if this were the attacker’s first attack, the attacker is treated as killing an innocent. If the attacker is a paladin or other class with restrictions about killing innocents, the attacker can't increase his level in that class until he recieves an atonement spell.

Wannabe saviors of the peasant (or simply those who don't want to waste time killing it) can make an opposed grapple check against the caster. The caster can use his or her grapple modifier or caster level for the check, whichever is higher. Since the peasant is a summoned creature, dispel magic also gets rid of the peasant.
